Does your Sales Team Sing?

Talent inspires me.

I have great appreciation for people and teams that have made it to the top of their game. Individual performance is always very impressive but team performance perhaps even more so.

Individuals perfect their performance often with a coach or team of coaches. Think of the PGA golf professional who has a swing coach, a personal trainer and a coach to help them with the mental aspects of their game. Aside from coaching support, successful individuals devote countless hours of practice to perfect their vocation regardless if it is an athletes, opera singer, or movie star.

With teams there is usually a coach or leader who could be the same person, who strives to pull the team together in to one finely-tuned operating unit. The Pittsburgh Steelers who won the 2009 Super Bowl in the National Football League come to mind. Every player contributed in some way. Every player had to have confidence that each person would do their required part.

What about sales teams? Do you consider yourself on a sales team? Do you believe your sales support person is a critical contributor to your team? What about those who support you indirectly like marketing associates? Do you view your peers as competitors or adversaries? Have you considered joining forces with another person, a common practice with Realtors? What can you do to make your team stronger?

While you are pondering these questions I would like you to enjoy an incredible musical performance by Perpetuum Jazzile. They are a cappella jazz choir from Slovenia. The group sings a 1980′s pop classic originally sung by the rock band Toto. The beginning of this video is really striking. Group members simulate an African thunderstorm with their hands.

After you have watched the performance, ask yourself if your team is performing with the same clarity, precision, timing and passion. What needs to change to do so?

Enjoy!
