Fate

Noun: fate
1) An event (or a course of events) that will inevitably happen in the future
2) The ultimate agency regarded as predetermining the course of events (often personified as a woman)
3) Your overall circumstances or condition in life (including everything that happens to you)
Do you believe in fate? My wife does. Always has. She thinks everything happens for a reason. She may be right.
I was watching a movie on TV last week and someone in the movie said they did not believe in fate as that would mean they had no control over their destiny and the lead in the show stated he always wanted to be in control. The thought stuck with me.
Does everything happen for a reason (fate) or do we have control over the future?
Do motivated individuals who work hard and maintain focus get ahead because of expended perspiration or is it fate? Do individuals who continually upgrade their skills, take on different and demanding job tasks to expand their knowledge base get the promotion because of effort, experience, and excellence or is it fate?
Some will say “s/he was in the right place as the right time” to explain an event, perhaps because they didn’t know all the facts. Maybe it was simply because of circumstance … or fate. Perhaps our lives are a hybrid of fate and control.
As you head into a new week ask yourself if the events ahead are under your control OR things will go the way they do simply because that is the way it was supposed to be.
Me, I believe we influence our future by the talents we develop, by the initiatives we take, and by the passion with which we pursue our dreams. If I’m wrong my I suspect my wife already knows that!
